They couldn't get them out of the cottage. So we are going to have a professional remove them. This is going to be a major problem since no one was scheduled to be up there til July, all the arrangements will have to be done from down here and with luck maybe Cousin Janet will be willing to help out. Aunt Helen seemed to think she would at any rate.

Anyway, that was a good chunk of my day, talking to The Kid and then calling Aunt Helen. But aside from that, I did some reading and played on the computer and napped.

Then in the late afternoon, I went out with [profile] mashfanfcchick and her mother. We had a late lunch at Noodles and Company, and then went to Barnes and Noble, where I got three books, an urban fantasy and two mysteries.

After that we went to Target, where I got a shirt and a new umbrella. And finally we did a late super at Chiles. And the server at Chilies gave a profound example of the inadequacies of the educational system in the US. We asked for the bill to be put two thirds on one card, and one third on another (mine). And she had no idea what we meant. Seemed like she had no idea what the word "third" meant. (and she had no accent to indicate that English ight not have been her first language) Scary.

Anyway, we got that straightened out and they brought me home. Feeding the cats now, then going to read some.

The FWiB called while I was out so I couldn't talk long. Looking forward to better tomorrow.

Gratitude List:

1. Friends.

2. I know what the word "third" means.

3. The Kid.

4. Chocolate cake for dessert.

5. Books! and bookstores.

6. The FWiB.

Slept very late, later than I should have, since I'll probably have trouble falling asleep tonight, then spent the day doing nothing but reading and playing on the computer.

The FWiB called, and we talked, he's starting to get some of the more classic side effects of the chemo, feeling dizzy and nauseated and disinclined to eat. At least, I hope it's the chemo, it seems a long time from the last session but I don't know anything about how long it takes.

Anyway, I'm reading Ellen Kushner's Thomas the Rhymer, not totally thrilled with it but it is good.

Still have tomorrow off, not sure what I'll do with it yet, but I want to do something. Of course I have my meeting, and the FWiB will call, but aside from that.

Feel as though I should say something deep and meaningful about Memorial Day, but I can't really think of anything except to express sorrow and gratitude for their sacrifice. The last war that I was totally in agreement with it's aims was World War 2. All the others since then have been tainted, but I recognize that the motives of the soldiers are not the motives of the politicians who send them. So here's to the lost soldiers, who gave their lives for a cause they thought was just and proper. And I'll leave it at that.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. Memorial Day.

3. Interesting books.

4. My leftover sundae from Wednesday.

5. Still have a day off.

6. My turtle.
