I don't know what went wrong. We were at Borrelli's,same as last year, and yet no one else showed up to watch from out front. Last year there were dozens of people! The fireworks may have been cancelled due to rain, though it had stopped and cleared up by the time they were supposed to start, or maybe they moved them to a location in the park where you couldn't see them from Borrelli's. But for whatever reason Oldest Brother and I sat outside alone until we decided there was nothing to see and left. *sigh*

Aside from that however the day was rather good. Oldest Brother made it in to the Bronx in time to have lunch with me and the day passed peacefully.

After work we went to Barnes and Noble for a brief while. I got a Mercedes Lackey that I hadn't read yet, one of the Elemental Masters books.

The FWiB called before we got there and we talked in the car while Oldest Brother napped. The FWiB is reading Vorkoverse fanfiction. He's such a sweet fanboy! I am thinking of trying to write something just for him.

At Borrelli's we had a good meal, with a drink first. They make a nice gin and tonic.

After we left Borrelli's we came back to my place, stopping at Rite Aid first so I could pick up a birthday card for John, a wedding card for Sara and Fabian, cat food for Sybil, legal sized envelopes so I can send some book lists to the FWiB without folding them, and soap for me. Then came back here and fed the cats and did a few things on-line,with Oldest Brother, and then he left. I shall b going to be to read Jules de Grandin soon.

Gratitude List:

1. Oldest Brother.

2. The FWiB.

3. Fanfiction.

4. Good food.

5. Fun books.

6. Got shopping done.

Remember I said yesterday the plumbers were coming today? Well it says in big plain letters and numbers on the note that they are coming July 7th. Which I knew perfectly well. But still thought they were coming today. This disturbs me.

I figured out in the morning after I got up, so I ate breakfast and went back to bed. Slept later than I should have, and then went online and read until 4, when I got up, took a shower and washed my hair, and went to dinner at Boston Market and then my meeting.

The FWiB called, and gloriously has a new phone which does not buzz! So we had a good conversation til my meeting. The meeting had to be held in the little room off the AA meeting because the rectory was closed so no one could get the key. But it was a good meeting none-the-less.

Called The Kid on the way home and had a nice conversation. Nothing very new at the moment.

And now I'm feeding the cats and going to go to bed to read one more Jules de Grandin before sleeping.

Gratitude List:

1. My meetings and the people there.

2. The Kid.

3. The FWiB has a working phone.

4. Good books.

5. Day to relax.

6. Made plans to see Oldest Brother tomorrow.

The first day of the summer vacation, and all is peaceful. Except that someone stole 10 new magazines out of their plastic folders. That was weird. But aside from that all is well. I was able to get someone to work for me so that I can go to on the winery tour I've been invited to on the 15th and that's good.

The FWiB called after work but again we were defeated by the horrible quality of the phone connection. He;s going to try and get a new phone from the nursing home. We'll see when he calls tomorrow.

I went to the drug store after I got home because I've been out of my meds for a couple of days, and starting to have withdrawal symptoms from the Paxil. I feel better now that I've had a dose.

Tomorrow supposedly the plumbers are coming again to do something with the water risers. Wonderful. Not. So I get to be shut up in my bedroom again all day with the cats. At least I have my Jules de Grandin stories to keep me occupied.

Made arrangements to see Oldest Brother on Saturday. We're going to do what we did last year and go to Borrelli's for dinner and then sit in their parking lot to watch the fireworks in Eisenhower park.

And that's all that's going on.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB getting another phone.

2. Nice coworker working my Saturday.

3. Patch of daisies that I saw.

4. Got my meds.

5. My turtle.

6. Good books.

It was a half day of school so the kids poured in early but also left early, so the afternoon and evening were dead quiet. Which was a good thing because we were short staffed. Also the boss was interviewing potential replacements for the children's position, which is a Good Thing.

Anyway, after work the FWiB called, but that annoying buzz is back on the line so after he tried calling me back twice, we called it a day. Hopefully it'll be better tomorrow.

I checked out a book of Seabury Quinn Jules de Grandin stories. They are all being republished, in five volumes, and this is the first. This is the only thing that has made me slightly wish I wasn't out of touch with the ex-husband. I wish I could tell him about them, because he was so much a fan of Seabury Quinn. Oh well. His loss. I am enjoying them myself.

Met up with [personal profile] mashfanficchick, her mother, and Theo and went to Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner, and then Carvel.

Oldest brother tells me that he heard from John that John Ivon had a stroke, affecting his right side, but it wasn't too bad. Hope he'll be OK.

There was a note on my door that they want access to the apartment again, for work on the water risers again. On Friday, luckily I'm free that day.

Bed now and some Jules de Grandin before sleep!

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. Friends.

3. Seabury Quinn book.

4. Ice cream.

5. Finally getting new person at work.

6. John Ivon not too badly off.

We used to have a party for the staff to celebrate the last day of school, but no one organized one this year. Bummer. I had the laptop program for the teens and they were crazy. But tomorrow is a half day and then it's all over for the summer, ad we can relax.

Got a nice long facebook message from Herschel. His job is moving to Alabama but he's not going. Going to quit and go into environmental activism full time as a career. I'm impressed and enthused.

The FWiB called and we talked while I made my way to my meeting. The meeting was very good, biggest we've had in months! Five people!

Got a ride home as usual, and when I got here, found Bjorn's missing collar and put it back on him. So that's good.

And that's all the news.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. Herschel.

3. My meetings and the people there.

4. The AC at work seemed much less deadly cold today.

5. Last day of school for the summer.

6. Found the missing collar.
silver_chipmunk: (Default)
Work was very quiet, no school which is silly cause the last day of school isn't until the 28th, so why have a day off on the 26th? But that's what they did. So we were very quiet indeed.

After work the FWiB called, and while we talked I made my way to 20th Ave, where I met up with [personal profile] mashfanficchick and her mother. We went to the Broadway Mall, somewhere on Long Island, first eating dinner at Blazes, a pizza place, and then shopping in the mall. I got two pairs of shoes, one for the wedding and one just because. I'll probably use them for that trip too. I also got an Old Navy flag tee shirt.

Then came home and found that Bjorn has managed to get his collar off somewhere in the apartment and I don't know where. Grr.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. Friends, including on-line friends, because it's Herschel's birthday.

3. Pizza.

4. Shoes gotten.

5. No school.

6. Wildflowers on the way to work.

Pride day!

So last night [personal profile] mashfanficchick and her mother picked me up around 12:30 and we went out for a snack to Omonia. I had a wonderful gelato thing with Kahlua. Then we went back to [personal profile] mashfanficchick's place, she opened the couch for me and we went to bed.

Next morning after I had my coffee we went and got breakfast at a deli and then went into the city. We had decided to skip the parade and just go to the festival after. Had trouble finding it, but eventually we did, and we went through the whole thing except the area that was cordoned off because there was a fire in one of the buildings along the street. But that was a minor part of the whole. Had a great time, and I am now covered in purple glitter that I'll have to shower off before I go to bed.

Then we came back to Queens, went to Starbucks to rehydrate, and met up with her mother to go out on the island to Ruby Tuesday's for dinner. Which was delicious. The FWiB called but obviously I couldn't talk long, but he is well.

They brought me home and all is well here. Went and picked up my laundry so I have something to wear tomorrow! And that's all.

Gratitude List:

1. Friends.

2. Pride.

3. The FWiB.

4. Clean laundry.

5. Saw a firefly outside my building tonight!

6. All well while I was gone.

Yes! I did things that needed doing! First, I got up in time to make it over to the vet's in Whitestone to get Bjorn his special prescription cat food, topping first to get a bagel and coffee from the bagel place. Interesting coincidence, the bus I got off when I got there, which then went to the end of the route and turned around, was the same bus I got on when I finished getting the cat food and got back on the bus heading home. I sat in the same seat too.

Came home, and took a little nap. (OK not everything I did was important I admit.) But then I got up and went into Flushing to Macy's and got a dress for Sara's wedding in July. It's blue and white, and not really fancy enough for a wedding, but I did the best I could, and I figure no one will be looking at me anyway. Now I need new shoes and to find my silver clutch purse, which I haven't seen since Kristan's wedding. It has to be here somewhere. I had a slice of pizza at a place across the street from Macy's first. It's pretty good pizza there, though it is a hole-in-the-wall sort of place.

As soon as I got home from getting the dress, the FWiB called. We had a nice long talk, and all is well.

After that, I got my laundry together and took it down to the laundromat, which really needed doing.

Now I'm waiting to hear from [personal profile] mashfanficchick, who is going to a Third Eye Blind concert tonight, but with whom I am spending the night in order to get an early start on tomorrow, which is the New York Pride parade. Not sure if she'll be up to that parade itself if not we'll do the festival after.

So that was my busy day, and not over yet.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. Found a dress.

3. Good pizza.

4. Clean laundry.

5. Friends.

6. Bjorn food gotten.

Working so many Saturdays makes me feel like a two day weekend is a vacation!

Work was pretty ok. Nothing of note, pretty quiet. After work I went to Boston Market for dinner as usual for Friday, and then I went to sit on the steps at my meeting and wait for the FWiB to call, which he did. Got off the phone in time for my meeting, which was a bit small but pretty good.

And that pretty much sums up my day, feeding the cats right now, and making decisions about tomorrow. I am going to try to get to the vet before they close at 12 in order to get food for Bjorn. I figure if I get up at 9 I should make it.

Something I meant to mention before. Started reading a book by Sherrilyn Kenyon (I think I spelled that right). I found one of her books in the discount section of Barnes and Noble the last time I was there and figured I'd give her a try. That's how I discovered Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden books, so I hoped I'd make a similar discovery. Alas, it was not to be. Really pretty bad imho. Doubt I'll bother finishing it, and that is _rare_ for me. Oh well.

So I'll have to find something else to read. I still have things left from my recent bookstore visits.

Gratitude List:

1. My meetings and the people there.

2. The FWiB.

3. Don't have to finish a book I dislike.

4. Calm day at work.

5. Dunkin' Munchkins.

6. Weekend!
silver_chipmunk: (Default)
Except for being more short staffed than usual. But fortunately it was also a very quiet day so no big deal.

The FWiB called on my way home and we talked for somewhat over an hour, which is about normal for us.

The big news of course is the horror of the Trumpcare bill. May these people rot in hell for what they;re doing.

Oh, called The Kid last night after I posted here. All well with them.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. The purple flowers that I walk past all summer in someone's yard are starting to bloom again.

3. Beautiful weather, not too hot.

4. A patron bought Dunkin' Munchkins for us today.

5. Two day weekend coming up.

6. My cough is getting better.
silver_chipmunk: (Default)
Not much to say about it except that I was somewhat late because I had trouble getting up, but decidedly better than last time.

We are short staffed, but that's nothing new. I did the Teen Lounge, didn't get too many though.

There must have been a really strong rain shower sometime during the afternoon, because I saw the wet sidewalks and puddles when I got out of work, but it had totally cleared up, and I wasn't even aware of when it rained.

After work the FWiB called and we talked as I went to the psychiatrist. I was somewhat dishonest because I made the next appointment to see him and it's after the time that my services there won't be covered any more and I need to find a new provider. But I haven't totally decided what I'm going to do. I can't pay full price out of pocket, but if they can give me some sort of plan... I have to talk to someone.

Anyway, was going to have Carvel with [personal profile] mashfanficchick tonight but she didn't feet up to it so we didn't. So I got myself a frozen mint hot chocolate from Dunkin' Donuts instead and just came home.

And Happy Summer Solstice to all! Unless you're in the southern hemisphere in which case Happy Winter Solstice.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. My mental health services.

3. Missing the rain.

4. Clover blossoms.

5. Summer is here.

6. Dunkin' Donuts.

No,not my computer, but the laptops at work. Inability to make an area reservation caused me to cancel the laptop program today. Though I did use the laptops, though without making an area reservation, with the 4th grade class. It was their third session, and it went pretty well.

After work the FWiB called, and we talked until it was time to start my meeting. He's feeling better than yesterday.

A bit of good news, S is back from moving, so we had three people at the meeting.

After the meeting I got a text from [personal profile] mashfanficchick to ask if I wanted to join her and her mother for dinner at Uno. So I said yes and they picked me up and we did that.

And that was my day.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. My meetings and the people there.

3. The return of S.

4. Friends.

5. Air conditioning.

6. Cousins.

Though it didn't look like it was going to rain when I left the house this morning, so I didn't bring an umbrella. *sigh* The downpour started at 5 but since I was working til 7 I had hopes that it would slaken by then, and so it did. It was still raining though, and I got rather wet getting home.

Did the gaming program with the kids and it went very well, though I hope I don't get int trouble for letting them play catch in the room.

The FWiB called, he had some nausea yesterday and threw up once but was OK today. I suppose it'll get worse the longer he had the chemo. He was OK today though.

No other news that I can think of.

Gratitude List:

1. Missed the worst of the rain.

2. Chocolate milk. (which does not come from brown cows!)

3. The FWiB.

4. There will be no problems with the cottage for the wedding.

5. On-line friends.

6. Finished my Jonathan Kellerman yesterday night.
silver_chipmunk: (Default)
There are no fatherly figures in my life now. Even my ex-husband, The Kid's father, is out of my life now. So Oldest Brother and I got together and went to Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch and had cider and toasted the memory of our father and grandfathers. We had a pretty good time, and afterward we came back here and puttered on-line til he had to leave for work.

Then I went and read one of the books I got from 2nd and Charles when I went with The Kid and SIL, the Jonathan Kellerman Alex Delaware I got out of the free bin. It's quite an old one, from 1992, long before I started reading them in order as they came out, so I've never read it.

The FWiB called, but we couldn't talk long. But it is good just talking to him, still.

Facebook messaged with David M for a bit, long time since I heard from him. He's not doing so well, I think he might have been hoping I would offer to help him out. But he didn't ask so maybe I'm being unjust.

There was some partying going on outside to the right of my window, on the open area there, but it has quieted down now so no problem.

Back to work tomorrow.

Gratitude List:

1. The memory of my father. Daddy, I miss you.

2. Oldest Brother.

3. Friends.

4. The FWiB.

5. Good books.

6. Working 11-7 tomorrow so I don't have to rush to bed and can read a little more.
silver_chipmunk: (Default)
After work, which went OK, though the boss was out sick again, I came home. The FWiB called and we spoke but only for a brief while as he was getting another infusion of the chemo, remotely this time by a device attached to his arm, and he had to site at the nurses station to be mnitored for an hour.

So after he got off it was still early and I texted [personal profile] mashfanficchick to see if she wanted to do something. We ended up meeting in Queens Center Mall and hanging out there for awhile. We had a snack of sushi, cause nothing says day out at the mall like raw fish on rice, and I got an Apple gift card for John's birthday as per Denise and Brianne's request.

We ended up having dinner at Outback, which was very nice, and then we went home.

So a very nice evening.

Gratitude List:

1. Friends.

2. The FWiB.

3. Missed the worst of the rain.

4. Air conditioning.

5. Family.

6. Got the Apple card.

5. Good food.

The guy who was supposed to come and fix my ceiling and floor didn't show up until 1:00, although actually he showed up at 8:30 and (I thought) said he'd be back after 9. But he had a thick accent, so he may have said he'd be back after noon. Anyway, he fixed the ceiling and floor but says he needs to come back to finish up a second coat of paint.

I discovered that there is a toggle on my door which changes it from not locking automatically when you shut it, which is how I've always had it, to locking automatically. And it's more difficult to get back in. I discovered this coming back from Dunkin' Donuts, where I went for food after the guy left. Very anxiety provoking, until I got it unlocked and open.

The FWiB called, he had chemo again today, but a shorter infusion, and no reactions this time.

Oldest Brother went to the doctor today, the results of his bloodtests were not good, he has to go back for more tests, and the doctor put him on more medications.

I went to my meeting, first having a couple of slices of pizza for dinner. All is good.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. Oldest Brother.

3. My meetings and the people at them.

4. Friends.

5. Saw a raccoon on my way home from the bus stop.

6. Air conditioning.

Had another of those "couldn't get up" mornings. Finally got myself going but was quite late.

However, I had the second of the three 4th grade class visits, this time in the building not the school, and that went very well.

The Kid called in the morning, I thought she was going to call back tonight but she hasn't so far. Got an e-mail from Laurie, looks like I will be staying at the cottage for Sara's wedding, which is good.

Almost had plans with [personal profile] mashfanficchick but they didn't work out at the last minute, which is probably for the best, since I came home and had to clean up some for the visit tomorrow of the workmen who are going to fix the floor an ceiling that was left undone when the plumbers installed the risers. So I did that tonight.

The FWiB called, but late and only talked for a little while. Today was his chemo session, it took two hours longer than it should have, and he was very tired and hungry. At least he's eating!

Tomorrow I hope they come early and get done quickly. I would like to go to the vet's and get Bjorn's food, and of course I have my meeting at 7.

Gratitude List:

1. Cooler than yesterday.

2. The FWiB.

3. The Kid.

4. Friends.

5. My job.

6. Orange juice.
silver_chipmunk: (Default)
Woke up several times. Had difficulty getting up in the morning but made it in to work on time anyway. Did the Teen Lounge but it was not successful today. Talked to the FWiB on the way home.

The weather is cooler, a really nice day for a change.

No Carvel because [personal profile] mashfanficchick doesn't feel well, the cold she's been suffering from getting the better of her I guess.

I got invited to a winery trip with the Torchwood group, but I have a sad feeling it's a Saturday I have to work. Maybe I can switch with someone. Watch this space.

I feel like I should say something about the fire in London, but words fail me. The pictures take me back to 9/11. As to the shooting in VA, well... I deplore violence on general principal but Malcolm X was right when he spoke of chickens coming home to roost.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. Friends.

3. Saw a butterfly today.

4. Lovely weather.

5. Cold getting better.

6. Flowers.
silver_chipmunk: (Default)
Though I was late... I missed turnning the alarm on last night and this morning I woke up in time but didn't get out of bed cause I was sick and, well things escalated. But it wasn't too bad. Anyway, did the laptop program with the teens and it was unexpectedly successful.

After work the FWiB called and I went to my meeting. The meeting was just me and M again, but better than nothing.

Just as we were finished and leaving, [personal profile] mashfanficchick texted and asked did I want to try to view that rocket that is eventually going to launch and release the colored clouds for wind current study. I said yes and they picked me up, but the launch was scrubbed again. So we went to Uno. I had eaten dinner already so I just had two tropical fruit smoothies. Delicious and cooling.

Came home and my new credit card arrived in the mail! So that's good.

Oh btw my cold is much better but still there.

Gratitude List:

1. My meetings and the people there.

2. The FWiB.

3. NASA.

4. Friends.

5. Cool drinks in the heat.

6. My turtle.
silver_chipmunk: (Default)
So I made the decision to call out sick today. And tried to call in to notify work of that decision. And the phone just rang and rang. I started calling at 9 and by 10:30 texted the boss and told him, and then just e-mailed it in. Turned out the phones at work were out of order, and I was the one that notified them of that.

Spent the rest of the day sleeping and reading. Still working on The Magicians by Lev Grossman. Not sure if I'll go on to the other two in the trilogy or not.

The FWiB called, and we talked for a good long time.

And that's pretty much my day. Back to work tomorrow.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. Sick time.

3. Air conditioning.

4. Good books.

5. Ice cream.

6. Cheese.
