Union Party
Jun. 4th, 2023 10:43 pmI woke up at 10 and drowsed until 11 then got up and had breakfast and coffee. I showered, and washed my hair, and shaved my legs, which hadn't been done since Mike and Kat's wedding back in the fall. Then I moussed my hair, and got dressed in something just for the afternoon till I picked up my laundry.
I Skyped the FWiB and we had a nice time. Then at 3:00 I went and picked up the small load of laundry I brought down yesterday. My dress turned out beautifully, and fits even better than when I got it. It's the dress I wore for the Kid's college graduation, and haven't worn since. I got dressed, and did a quick polish, blue, to match the dress, on my toe and finger nails. I put on the gold shoes I got for Mike and Kat's wedding, which are about the only heels I've ever been able to walk in, put on a little makeup, switched my necessities from my day-to-day purse to the one the Kid got me for Mother's Day, and set off.
Walked to Main Street and Northern Blvd. Found the right stop, and waited. And waited, and waited. That darn bus was 20 minutes late. When I got to the right stop I used google maps to find my way to the hall. I got there just about the starting time, despite the delays, so that was OK. I called Oldest Brother from outside the hall, and then went in. It was a pretty glitzy place, lots of mirrors and crystals.
They gave out favors, I got a light up head thing which I thought was supposed to be cat ears till I realized it was more like a unicorn horn and ears. Whatever. It's fun.
There was an open bar, I had two gin and tonics, very nice. The food was OK, not great but very good. It was buffest, with appetizers handed out befo re.
The trouble was I didn't know anyone there to sit with. I took a seat at a table that was empty and assumed it would fill up as people got there, but there were more seats than people and it never did. I was alone. But two people did say hello, and one of them was someone who remembered me from 30 years ago when he was a page at my first branch (now he's moved up considerably) so that was nice. And one of the executive board asked me to dance, I think it she took pity on me being alone.
At 8:30 I went to the ladies room and called Middle Brother where it was somewhat quiet. He;s fine, went out yesterday and Friday so he's happy.
I texted the Kid, she's fine, and happy I used the purse she gave me. And
mashfanficchick and I texted a bit. We're going to the Philharmonic at Cunningham Park on the 15th after my doctor's appointment, for zer mother's birthday.
I got to take the centerpiece from the table home, since I was the only one at the table, there was no competition for who got it. It's nice, a square glass box with glass pebbles and white fabric roses. It lights up.
At 10 I left (an hour early, but I was ready) and took an Uber home. Got here, fed the pets, took off my shoes and am writing here. I had told Oldest Brother I probably wouldn't call tonight for the third time.
So I had a quietly good time and am now ready to go to bed.
Gratitude List:
1. The FWiB.
2. My union.
3. My dress turned out well.
4. Friends.
5. The Kid.
6. The weather held out and didn't rain.
