Fourth of July
Jul. 5th, 2023 12:47 amSlept latish, then called Oldest Brother and
mashfanficchick. Got up and breakfasted and coffeed, read on the net, then showered and dressed. Wore shorts for the first time this year, and my Old Navy flag tee-shirt, which I figured was appropriate for the day. I cancelled the Al-anon meeting for the day.
mashfanficchick and zer mother picked me up around 2:30. We invited Dori but she couldn't come because she hurt her ankle yesterday.
First we got lunch from Stop and Shop. I got a lobster roll and New England clam chowder. It was very good.
Then we went to Barnes and Noble. Got drinks in the Starbucks cafe, and picked our seats for the new flight to and from Amsterdam in August. Then just browsed and read till closing time. I bought a book, one that I had looked at the last time I was there, but hadn't gotten, The Magician's Daughter. I called Oldest Brother for the second time.
Then we went to dinner at Noodles and Co. As always, very tasty. The Kid called me and we had a nice talk, she's doing well. I called Oldest Brother for the third time.
Then we went in search of fireworks we could watch, deciding to try Jones Beach. Sadly we didn't make it, but we saw a lot of illegal private fireworks going up which were very beautiful. And we decided to go to a show sometime next week since I'm on vacation and we're not going away.
We finished up the night by going to Baskin and Robbins for ice cream, which I've always had as traditional for the Fourth of July anyway.
Now I'm home and going to go to bed. Tomorrow I have the 3D printer program at Wakefield to observe.
I love the Fourth of July, I love my country, but I fear what the right is turning it into.
Gratitude List:
1. The FWiB.
2. My friends.
3. The Kid.
4. Ice cream.
5. Fireworks.
6. The ideals of my country, if only we can live up to them.
