Saw Oldest Brother
Oct. 8th, 2023 10:47 pmI got up and had breakfast and coffee, then showered and dressed, then headed over.
He looks pretty bad. He doesn't even try to talk much, but he was mostly lucid, I think, knew who I was at least and showed understanding when I told him the Kid sent love and was worried about him. He's on oxygen. I spoke to the nurse who was brusque and seemed annoyed that I was asking. I will keep getting information each day though.
Anyway, I didn't stay long, there wasn't much point, he couldn't talk to me and I could only say the same things over. So after awhile I left. Called![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
mashfanficchick who said they'd meet me at my place so I walked home. Called the Kid, she called me back and we talked.
Got a bag of laundry together, and took out some garbage. Killed time online. Finally I went to make a cup of decaf, and my Keurig machine has died. So I got online and ordered a new one from Best Buy. I think it's the same one I have now, it looks like it in the picture. It should be delivered tomorrow.
Just when I was finishing the transaction,mashfanficchick called and said they were on their way, so I packed up the computer, and puttered on my phone till they got here.
We went back to zer apartment to pick up something that had been left, then went to eat at a Mediterranean place. Very yummy.
Then we went to Barnes and Noble and hung out there, I bought a book of course. Shadow in the Empire of Light. Now I have to decide if I go on reading that, or put it aside in favor of finishing Walk the Wild With Me. I also bought a pumpkin spice latte and a maple pecan Danish.
After Barnes and Noble closed we went shopping at Shop Rite, then I stopped at a bank to use the atm. I called Middle Brother, who is fine.
Finally they brought me home, and I Skyped the FWiB for a little while.
You will note I have said nothing about the situation going on in Israel. There are no good guys, and apologists for each side will blame the other and ignore the brutality and inhumanity of their own side. The antisemites and Islamophobes will each run their mouths off.
I am reminded of the "joke" about the frog and the scorpion on the bank of the River Jordan.
The scorpion asks the frog for a ride on his back across the river.
The frog says "No, you'll sting me and I'll die."
"No I won't, because if I sting you and you die, I'll drown in the river," says the scorpion.
The frog thinks this over, decides it makes sense, and agrees.
Halfway over, the scorpion stings the frog. As he's dying, the frog says "Oh scorpion, why did you do that? Now you'll die too. Where's the sense in that?"
And with his dying breath the scorpion says, "Sense? What sense? This is the Middle East, my friend."
