Family get-together
Mar. 13th, 2022 10:17 pmI did remember to change my clock last night, so that worked out OK. Then I dwadled in bed for an hour after the alarm went off, but I hurried and got out the door on time.
Walked to Oldest Brother's nursing home. The first snag... despite my arranging everything with the social worker and the rehab guy, no one had told nursing that he was going out. He was dressed, because he had told the attendant that he was going out, but they hadn't put him in his wheelchair, which requires a Hoyer lift,. So I had to go through that, and thank goodness I had allotted extra time for everything!
Then the cab was late, but again, I had allotted extra time, and we made it to the restaurant just on time. We were the first ones there, but no big deal. John, Denise, and Brianne had picked up Middle Brother from the group home and they got there before too much time passed. I called the Kid, she was still feeling so-so but said she'd come not to eat but just to see everyone.
The food was great, expensive, but great. I had chicken marsala, and loved it. We had just had dessert and had Middle Brother open his presents, and then exchanged our belated Christmas presents, when the Kid showed up and had coffee with us. So that was nice. We had to rush a little at the end because the return cab showed up, but he was nice and didn't run the meter while he was waiting for us.
So I brought Oldest Brother back to the nursing home and stayed for a half hour. Then I walked home, and was feeling sort of down, and was just about to go lie down when I noticed the Kid had called and I'd missed it. I called her back and we ended up talking for a very long time. Mostly about Ukraine and Russia.
After we got off I Skyped the FWiB, and we talked for a long time too.
Then I called
mashfanficchick, and talked to zer a bit, and made plans for tomorrow. And by the time we were done, it was time to call Oldest Brother, so I did that.
Then I played solitaire and read Facebook till it was time to feed the pets, and that was that.
It is so strange to think of John and Denise not being around here any more. I am going to miss them. Oldest Brother is quite sad, saying he'll probably never see John again, but I hope that isn't true. We will see what we can do.
Gratitude list:
1. The FWiB.
2. My family.
3. The accessible taxi service.
4. It all worked out today.
5. The snow didn't start till after I got home (It wasn't supposed to snow today at all!)
6. Good food.
