Summer Symposium
May. 12th, 2023 10:59 pmToday was the all day YA Summer Symposium in the main library in Manhattan, the one with the lions. I got there well on time despite sleeping longer than I intended. They served breakfast, which was bagels and cream cheese (various types) and pastries and fruit salad, and lunch, which was Panera sandwiches, which come with chips and a cookie. It was a pretty fun time actually. Harkened back to the Old Days when we had YA meetings monthly.
After it was over I went to the library across the street that used to be MidManhattan and which is now SNFL. I went up to the roof cafe and garden, and then down into the Teen Room.
After that I went back to Flushing via the 7 train, and went to Duane Reed and got a birthday card for the Kid, and wrapping paper. Then I came back home, changed my shoes, picked up my Al-anon books, and went to my meeting in the Bronx. Since I ate large meals for both breakfast and lunch I didn't get dinner, though I got a drink from Dunkin' Donuts when I got there.
I attempted to Skype the FWiB by phone while I was waiting, but it was intensely noisy due to cement work being done right next to where I was sitting. We did manage sort of though. Then I had my meeting, which was very good.
I traveled home with D and came home and called Oldest Brother for the third time, and then the Kid, who didn't pick up. Then I Skyped the FWiB, and the Kid called, so I took time to talk with her. She has the Old Westbury tickets, and I have confirmed the reservation for the restaurant, so we're all set.
The FWiB and his wife closed on the condo they are buying today, so it's a done deal. As I have said, I am happy for them but concerned for what it means for me. Changes, always. Nothing stays the same.
It's so warm in here I am considering plugging in and using my air conditioner tonight.
Gratitude List:
1. The FWiB.
2. The Kid.
3. My meetings and the people there.
4. Fun times at work.
5. My air conditioner.
6. Mass transit to get where I'm going.
