Saw the surgeon
Got up this morning and showered and dressed, and got picked up by
mashfanficchick and zer mother.
Zer mother needed to get a blood test done, which is why they were picking me up early, so they wouldn't have to drive out to her medical building, then pick me up, and drive out the same way again to my medical building. So
mashfanficchick and I waited and had a nice chat while zer mother went in.
Then we went to Chopt for lunch, and I had a very tasty Classic Cobb salad.
Then they took me to the surgeon.
And she said that since the tumor is small (1.1 CM) and there's no other involvement, they can do a lumpectomy and radiation. Which is what I had been hoping. She did say if I wanted I could have a left breast mastectomy and reconstruction, but that the outcomes were the same. The only difference is that there is a 25% chance over my lifetime of it returning, and I'll have to be very strict with getting mammograms. I'm willing to take that risk, so a lumpectomy it is. I don't know the date yet, they'll call me.
So they arranged for my test results, the mammography, biopsies, and MRI to be sent over from the radiology place, and then I was free to go.
So they drove me home and I called Oldest Brother, who has gotten a new phone, so the problem with the ringer is taken care of. But the social worker never came to see him today. So if she doesn't in a day or so I'll have to call back. Anyway, I also called the Kid.
Then I Skyped the FWiB and we had a nice time. While we were talkingm thiugh, I got a call from the surgeon. She had seen the results of the second biopsies, the atypical cells in the right breast, and they are going to do a surgical biopsy on the right breast at the same time they do the lumpectomy. I'm not too worried about that.
The FWiB got off to talk to his friend Mike, and I started reading online, and discovered the the new Bujold Penric and Desdemona novella (really a novel, at 250 pages) is out and ready to download.
So I downloaded it to my Nook, and went and started reading it till 7:30 when I had some cheese and crackers as a snack and then started my Al-anon meeting at 8:00. It went very well.
After the meeting, I had dinner, then called Oldest Brother and then the kid, and then went on reading the novella.
And then I came out and fed the pets, and here I am.
Gratitude List:
1. The FWiB.
2.
mashfanficchick and zer mother.
3. My medical plan.
4. I can have a lumpectomy rather than a mastectomy.
5. All my supportive friends.
6. My meetings and the people there.
