I was up too late last night e-mailing one of the FWiB's friends. Mustn't do that tonight.

Changes in that situation. Looks like his wife isn't going to try and declare him incompetent, instead she's just going to divorce him. Maybe that will be the impetus he needs to get clean, I don't know but I doubt it. *sigh*

Went to my meeting in the evening, was very good. Step nine.

oh dear, I do hope that her decision to divorce him won't push him over the edge definitively. Does she think that you will 'step into the breach' ? Would you? could you?

I have told him I would have him here with me but only if he were clean and sober. I've had one active alcoholic living with me, that was enough. Never again.

I don't know what's going to happen. His friends are making suggestions but he vetos them.

you've made the offer, now it's up to him to decide what he really wants. And I hate to say this, but if he is determined to kill himself with drink there is no more anyone can do.
