Missed day, and sad news
Jul. 6th, 2024 12:17 amBut I'll start with the 4th before I get to it.
I got up and had breakfast and coffee. Made plans with
mashfanficchick and zer mother to get together after the Mets game, which was in the morning on the 4th.
So they watched the game and I puttered on line and then took a shower and dressed.
They picked me up and we went to Starbucks. I brought The Girl On The Train and finished it there. I also had a strawberry Frappuccino and a ham and Swiss croissant.
After we were there for a good while,
mashfanficchick got an invitation for us to play games with RK and Liz G that night. We decided the best idea would be for me to spend the night after gaming, at
mashfanficchick's place.
So they took me home to feed the pets and pack clothes and my meds, and then we went to several restaurants before we ended up getting Thai food for eating at the gaming for dinner. I called Middle Brother, he went swimming and had a barbecue.
We had a lovely time, we played Carcassonne, then Coup, then Apples to Apples. It was around 4 am when we stopped. RK drove us back, we stopped at a Baskin and Robbins that was open 24 hours and got ice cream. I got a butter pecan cone. Because the 4th of July and ice cream go together.
Anyway, we were back by 5 and in bed by 6, and then slept very very late in the morning.
I woke up around 12 noon, and was looking on Facebook when I saw the sad news. Dawn Rice, one of the major lights in the Starsky and hutch fandom, and someone I knew personally and through Facebook and Zoom, has died.
We knew she was in the hospital with pneumonia. And I had a bad feeling, so I had put her and her daughter, on the prayer list at Ship-of-fools. But I was shocked, and saddened, to hear this. She was a major figure in the fandom, author, participant in all the on-line activities, and the cons. I don't know what we will do without her writing prompts, and fic recs, and welcomes.
So there's that. That hung over the whole day today.
We finally got up. My meeting tonight was cancelled, so I spent the day with them. We went to BJ's. Then we went to Uno for a meal, dinner by then, and ate. While we were there my podiatrist called me and told me my foot is about 95% healed, and I can wear my regular shoe now, but keep the ace bandage for about two weeks. So, some good news.
After that we went to Target. And while we were there the car stopped working. It turned out to be out of gas. We went through a lot of hassle gtting roadside assistance to come and bring gas. Finally they put in enough to get to a gas station.
It was 11:30 by then, and the FWiB went to bed, meaning I missed Skyping him two days, which is a sad but we'll talk tomorrow.
Got home, the Unnatural Death by Dorothy Sayers that I ordered free from Thriftbooks arrived. Also a check for the Google settlement arrived. Twelve cents, I kid you not. A check for twelve cents. I doubt I'll bother cashing it.
Now it's time for bed.
Gratitude List:
1. The FWiB.
2. Knowing Dawn.
3. My friends.
4. Gaming night.
5. My cat was waiting for me when I got home.
6. The car problem was no worse than being out of gas.
